La mine Barton est célèbre pour la qualité de ses grenats, qui ont été utilisés tant en joaillerie que pour produire des abrasifs réputés. Ce grenat est en effet plus dur que la normale. Enchassés dans une matrice de Hornblende noir et de quartz jaunâtre, ces grenats dans la roche peuvent atteindre facilement 15 à 25 cm de diamètre, voir jusqu’à 1 mètre. Malheureusement, il est impossible de les extraire sans les fracturer en morceaux. Les échantillons présentés ici sont sur matrice.
 
Barton mine is well known for its garnets, which were used as material for jewellery, but for the major part, to use as abrasives, because of their unusual great hardness. They were found in a matrix composed of black Hornblende and yellow quartz. In their matrix, they can have a size from 15 to 25 cm and more. Unfortunately, it is impossible to remove them intact from their matrix. The sample presented here are garnet parts on matrix.
